The Dobermann Club Championship Show 28/05/16
Thank you to the Dobermann Club Committee for inviting me to judge Females at their 2016 Championship show, I thoroughly enjoyed my day. I had a super entry, with lots of quality exhibits to judge and the weather was kind to us. I was delighted to see my Bitch CC 'Aritaur Enchante' go BEST IN SHOW on the referee's decision. Thank you to everyone who entered their lovely bitches under me. Very tough decisions in some classes & my critique is as follows....
VETERAN BITCH (4,1)
1ST BALSHAWS 'JANZINS JAMELIA JW SHCM' WOW ! at 9 years old this Black/Rust is in excellent condition for her age. Judged her as a youngster & she is still just as lovely & she still moves so soundly holding her topline at all times. She is well made, has a true front, a clean neck & a pretty head with a feminine expression with the desired almond eye. She is in super condition & could quite easily still be a Yearling bitch. A real credit to her owner.
2ND WALKER'S 'AMAZON SWEET SWEET KANDY TO BAIKEL' 7 year Black/Rust another in lovely condition & good muscle tone. She presents a nice shape but she is longer cast than 1. Beautiful front & neck. She has a nice head with a lovely expression & eye. Moved well & thoroughly enjoyed her moment of glory.
MINOR PUPPY BITCH (5,1)
1ST JONES 'KORIFEY ENVY' 8 months Black/Rust, what a show girl ! She stood out on the day as my Best Puppy Bitch & was handled to her best advantage. Promising puppy, very mature for her age, strong & nicely put together & in hard condition. She moves soundly, keeping her topline held at all times. Her front is true & she stands on beautiful cat like feet. She has a strong head which I would prefer more refined but she has a good length of head, a deep muzzle, nice underjaw & a dark expressive eye. Sure she will have a promising future.
2ND JONES & SMITH 'KORIFEY DEVOTION' litter sister to 1, very much from the same mould but she is longer cast than her sister and her front could be better. Elbows tight but she is not true when standing front on to her. Long, clean neck into well laid shoulder, with a nice amount of forechest, all balanced with her rear angulation. Her head is good but for me personally the ridge on her nose spoils her expression, she has a beautiful dark eye. Moved & handled well.
PUPPY BITCH (8,1)
This was a very tough class to judge with some lovely puppies that will probably change places on other occasions.
1ST GALLAGHER'S 'IZRALIGHT FIREDANCER' 9 month Black/Rust this puppy won the class on her over all shape, well made front, compactness & she showed herself off throughout. She has a lovely little shape, has the desired crested neck, firm topline, tight elbows, pleasing head with good length, & it is feminine but I would prefer more defined tan markings. Good rear angulation, she moved well. I really liked her but at this stage her front needs to tighten up on the move when compared to the Minor Puppy. Handled well.
2ND WALDIE'S 'VONEDSTRAM VALESKA' 10 months Black/Rust, she is flashier in type to 1 but at this stage didn't have the forechest of 1 although this was not helped by her leaning back into herself at times. She is a lovely puppy, clean in shape, her neck is beautiful. I preferred the head on this bitch which is stronger, narrow in back skull, has good length & is cleaner in her markings however I judged the dogs on the day & 1 just had the edge in her overall picture & presentation.
JUNIOR BITCH (8,3)
1ST LAINCHBURY'S 'ASHLAIN TRYPITI' 12 months Black/Rust. I love this bitch, she is just as gorgeous as her Champion grandmother if not better. She is packed full of quality & has the 'class' that I was looking for. A combination of substance with elegance. She is so well made, lovely to go over, her front & neck is fabulous. She has a beautiful refined head which has strength but still retains femininity. Narrow back skull & has the desired length to it & a dark almond eye, loved her expression, you can see what a character she is ! Moved so soundly, holding herself on the move, reaching in front with great extension & the desired propulsive drive from behind which a Dobermann should have. Handled well & I could not deny her the RCC in the challenge, I will watch her future with interest. Think she will be quite something when she fully matures. RCC Well done.
2ND CAFFEL & KAVANAUGH 'DOBERWAY RETURN TO TIFFANY'S' 14 months Black/Rust another packed with quality but she lacks the front assembly of 1. That said she still has a good front with a long neck, firm topline. Elbows tightly tucked, good depth of brisket & a lovely head which is feminine with a dark eye. True front & rear & she moves soundly at one with her handler who gets the very best from her at all times. Another show girl who still has to mature yet.
YEARLING BITCH (2)
1ST SANDERSON'S 'JAKTAY CARDINAL SINS AT JODASEEN nearly 2 years Black/Rust on the bigger side but still in proportion. She presents a clean shape, I preferred her front to the 2nd. She has a clean & reachy neck. Lovely head which is strong, feminine & has a good length of muzzle. I would prefer more weight on her, she was slightly sucked up underneath which meant her topline tended to roach at times. Moved well & she holds herself on the move. Handled to bring out a nice shape in her.
2ND FROST'S 'OTAGO ANGEL DREAMZ FOR ZEEGEEZ' 18 months Brown/Rust a different type of bitch more standard in height than 1. She is elegant but doesn't have the front of 1, lacking in forechest and depth when compared. Beautiful neck, she is compact & square & has a straight front, tight feet, nice feminine head with a good eye shape but could be darker. Moved well around the ring with her handler, who handled her compently.
1ST JONES 'KORIFEY ENVY' winner of Minor Puppy Bitch.
2ND REID'S 'DOBSHANGRILA REBELLION' 12 Months Black/Rust. Very smart & clean in shape with elegance, she stood 3rd behind two super bitches in Junior & whilst she is also very nice herself with lots of qualities she wasn't moving, showing or looking as well today. Lovely neck & a nice head with a feminine expression & dark almond eye.
UNDERGRAD BITCH (7,2)
1ST GRAHAM & MYCROFT'S 'SUPETA'S POCKET ROCKET AT SHARHYSTE' 14 Months Black/Rust. Shows herself off ! Square, clean & sharp in outline, with a good topline. She won this class on her front movement which is true. Strong wedge head with pleasing expression, almond eye but could be darker. Moved soundly covering the ground with ease. Handled to advantage. I understand this class gave her, her Junior Warrant title. Well done.
2ND GALLAGHER'S ' IZRALIGHT FIREDANCER' winner of Puppy Bitch.
POST GRADUATE BITCH (5)
1ST RYMAN'S 'DOBEHAVEN SEA PEARL' 2 Years Black/Rust on the smaller side but beautiful in shape. So clean & smart in outline. Very well balanced, nice front which is true with good depth of brisket & a nice amount of forechest. Tight elbows. Good feminine head which could be stronger but she has a pleasing expression & a almond eye but it could be darker. Moved around the ring well once she settled into it. Nice bitch.
2ND ELLIOT'S 'KHANEVE ADORATION' 2 1/2 Years Brown/Rust, a very honest & well made bitch but she lacked animation. She is clean in shape with a lovely true front but could do with slightly more rear angulation to balance her shape better. Pleasing head, with good length of muzzle. She has good muscle tone & moved soundly. Handled well.
LIMIT BITCH (10)
What a lovely class to judge with some hair splitting decisions to make. 1, 2 & 3 are all super quality Bitch's & on another day could change places.
1ST FEENEY'S 'STORMHOLD ENIGMA FROM DIEGO JW' 2 year Black/Rust, I love the bone, substance & compactness of this young bitch. She is built solid & she is strong but there's no denying she is a bitch by the femminity of her wedge head which is beautiful with good depth & underjaw & she has a dark almond expressive eye, all typical of what her sire is producing. Nice neck into an excellent front which is true when moving & standing front on to her. She moved well once settled, strong, sound rear-end with plenty of muscle tone. A quality bitch, in excellent condition. I would however like her cleaner in crop & topline.
2ND JONES 'KORIEFY BLACK DIAMOND (AI) JW SHCM' 2 year Black/Rust, On shape this bitch is faultless, more substance to her all over would complete the picture. She excels in front assembly & neck, a Dobermann must have a neck & that she does. Feminine head which could be stronger but it is clean and narrow in back skull with the darkest of eye. Tightest of feet & the cleanest of toplines. Her movement is true & fluid, however today unfortunately she wasn't quite moving as well as she does on the rear which cost her the class. Handled to bring out the best in her at all times. Lovely bitch.
OPEN BITCH (14,3)
Another super class to judge, full of quality with some Bitch's I like standing down the line.
1ST LONG'S 'ARITAUR' ENCHANTE' 4 years Black/Rust. Pure class ! She had that something 'extra' which I was looking for. She presents the most eye catching silhouette when stood, her shape is stunning. She is on the taller side but she is so well balanced & stands true when viewed from every angle. Beautiful head & a dark almond eye. Her length of neck is most fabulous & she is square & so smart in shape. She combines substance with elegance & she holds herself at all times, Moved with power, vigour & drive, her movement is very free & elastic. She showed her heart out for her handler to win the BCC & BEST IN SHOW (her 2nd, all the best for no.3) I loved her. Well done.
2ND THORN'S 'TAEVAS BLACK VELEVET AT GRAFMAX JW SHCM' 2 1/2 Black/Rust quality, stylish bitch who I like very much but her neck & shoulders doesn't flow as well as 1. She is smart & square in shape & has a strong front with good depth of brisket & forechest. She has a strong topline which is clean. Most attractive head that is a wedge with excellent depth of muzzle & underjaw, dark eye. Well muscled rear. She is In excellent condition & she moved well covering the ground with ease.
